Leila Weefur (They/He/She) is an artist, writer, and curator from Oakland, CA. Their filmmaking and installation practice examines the performativity intrinsic to systems of belonging. The work combines concepts of sensorial memory, abject Blackness, hyper surveillance, and the erotic. Weefur is a recipient of the Walter & Elise Haas Creative Work Fund, the California Black Voices Project, and CCI Investing in Artists Grant. Weefur has worked with international institutions including KADIST, McEvoy Foundation for the Arts, SFMOMA, The Wattis Institute, Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive, and Smack Mellon. Weefur is a lecturer at the University of California, Berkeley, and the California College of the Arts.
