  • Describe a formative experience that you've had with queer culture.

  • Describe your artistic practice; how you and it have evolved; and how you would like to see yourself and your art develop. Please reference the work samples submitted in this application.

3000 character limit, includes spaces. Approximately 500 words.

  • Describe a specific project that you'd like to work on with a Mentor during the 2018-2019 Fellowship.

3000 character limit, includes spaces. Approximately 500 words.

  • For Curatorial Applicants: Please identify which aspects of the curatorial responsibilities outlined below hold the greatest interest for you to gain experience doing? How could that experience contribute to your practice overall? Separate from the QAM Annual, what opportunities to further your practice will you pursue during the program (provide at least one example)?

Beginning with the 2018-2019 cycle of Queer|Art|Mentorship, prospective Fellows in Curatorial Practice apply to participate as a curator-in-residence during the program. As such, they can expect to engage with their peers working in Film, Literature, Performance, and Visual Art and take a leading role in the curatorial process for organizing the QAM Annual. This includes conducting studio visits with each of the other Fellows in the program, working with each artist to select content for final presentation, organizing materials and content for exhibition and an accompanying publication, drafting curatorial text as part of the exhibition and publication, and working with Queer|Art to plan and produce all elements of installation and related live events. Throughout this process, Queer|Art staff actively supports and supervises the Fellow, guiding them through the curatorial process: first by developing realistic expectations in collaboration with the Fellow and their Mentor, and then subsequently by providing clear deadlines and regular follow-up for each phase of exhibition, event, and publication planning. A separate budget—including support for installation materials, installation labor, publication printing, promotion, et al.—is allocated for the Annual exhibition and managed by the Fellow in collaboration with Queer|Art staff.

  • Describe why you're interested in the Queer|Art|Mentorship Program; what you feel participation would mean for your life, art, and career; and what you can offer to the Mentor relationship and other participants in the Program. You may mention the Mentors in the field(s) to which you are applying to help frame your response as you wish.

1500 character limit, includes space. Approximately 250 words.
