Founded in 2009, Queer|Art uses a model of mentorship to cultivate a network of shared resources that empower an intergenerational community of LGBTQ+ artists. The Queer|Art Programs & Operations Assistant will work closely with the Executive Director (ED) and Programs & Operations Director (P&O Director) to support the programs and operations of this rapidly growing non-profit organization.
Queer|Art’s programs are organized under three major areas of support: Mentorship (Creative & Professional Development), Presents (Events, Exhibitions, & Public Presentations), and Awards (Residencies, Grants, & Prizes). These programs support creative and professional development and presentation of work for LGBTQ+ artists at all stages of their careers while also facilitating new relationships within an evolving LGBTQ+ arts community. Our team consists of six staff members and five associates. The office environment is often fast-paced and involves moving between multiple projects on a daily basis. This is an exciting opportunity for emerging producers, artist managers, community organizers, and arts administrators who are seeking diverse administrative, research, and production experience.
This is a temporary part-time position, 3 days per week (24 hours), through the end of December 2020, with possibility for extension. Compensation is $22/hr. Additional hours may occasionally be required. Applicants must be based in New York City.
Responsibilities Include:
Programs
Working with P&O Director to track and advance program production timelines, supporting coordination of artists, partnering venues, and other constituents.
Supporting design of digital and print material related to our programs, including exhibition catalogues, organizational reports, postcards, posters, and other promotional materials.
Conducting and organizing research on artists, foundations, donors, potential partners, and other key players in our extended community.
Proposing edits, revisions, and additions for press releases, e-blasts, and newsletter.
Drafting and preparing social media updates about our artists and programs for various online platforms (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram).
Editing, organizing, and filing digital documentation and other materials related to our programs.
Providing miscellaneous production support (set-up, breakdown, transporting items, box office, documentation, etc.) during public and private events.
Updating the website.
Operations
Assisting Executive Director and P&O Director in keeping track of schedules for compliance and accounting.
Assisting P&O Director to track and file receipts of all monthly income and expenses.
Assisting P&O Director to review bank statements and code receipts, prep monthly for further processing by freelance bookkeeper.
Assisting P&O Director to distribute payments for vendors, guest artists/curators, and independent contractors to ensure timely processing.
Maintaining filing systems with digital and hard copy files for long-term organization of programs and operations.
Helping to maintain and update database of Queer|Art constituents.
Assisting maintenance of orders, subscriptions, and utilities for ongoing office operations.
Tracking inventory of office supplies and maintaining stock of necessary materials.
Preferred Qualifications:
Detail-oriented problem solver who takes initiative
Strong research, drafting, and copyediting skills
Familiarity with graphic design software and an eye for design aesthetics
Commitment to LGBTQ+ rights and representation
Commitment to supporting the advancement of LGBTQ+ culture
Software knowledge: Adobe Suite, Google Docs
Social media savvy (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook)
Familiarity with Squarespace
Production knowledge: Digital SLR/mirrorless camera
